 2007 in Review

Dear Covenant friends:

As I look back upon the journey that Covenant for New England has followed over the months of 2007, I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him in such a pivotal time of history. Many important issues hang in the balance, and Evangelical Christianity in this nation is at a crossroads. What happens in the next few years will determine much of what will define the spiritual state of our country for the next century at least. Many of us have been working hard to provide a platform of prayer, unity and collaboration for the Holy Spirit to pour out the revival that we know is very much in God's heart at this time. Despite the marriage amendment setback this June, we are more convinced than ever that we should continue with the arduous work of stoking the fire of revival, and not cease in our prayers for a mighty visitation of the Holy Spirit upon our region.

I am reminded of the defiant words of the apostle Paul in the letter to the Philippians, as he contemplated an uncertain personal future, while a fragile, fledgling Church sought to gain a footing in hostile Greco-Roman cultural soil: Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice!  Paul's counterintuitive joy and confidence were founded on his unshakable confidence in the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and the ultimate invincibility of the Gospel. He knew that no matter what course events took on the surface, ultimately it would all conspire toward the advancement of the Gospel (see Philippians 1:12-18). Two thousand years of history have more than vindicated the apostle's defiant confidence. Christ has promised that the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against His Church. This promise alone should give us great confidence that the ultimate outcome here in New England will be no different: Christ will prevail. The forces of darkness will be compelled to fall back. We will see Christ's Church again emerge revived and victorious.

Significant organizational achievements during the course of this year give us reasons to celebrate. We have learned much during this year, and have refined and clarified our vision and goals as a movement. We have played an important role in organizing major regional events such as the Global Day of Prayer, which drew together close to three thousand believers in May. Covenant leadership has also contributed significantly in such spiritually enriching events as the Andrew Comiskey forum on homosexuality in January, and the Rhonda Hughey event on transformation and renewal in September. For the second year, Covenant organized a highly successful outdoor dinner for Christian leaders at Kris and Lura Mineau's house in August. In November we celebrated an intense, invigorating praise and intercession event at Congregacion Leon de Juda that attracted over fifty choice intercessors and leaders from various parts of the region. We have also been deeply involved in the formation and structuring of the New England Alliance, which seeks to facilitate structural and organizational unity among ministries all over the region.

God continues to move in New England. Young new leaders are being raised. Strong new organizations such as the Justice House of Prayer are emerging. We are contemplating ambitious undertakings for the coming year. The prospects for the Kingdom of God are more encouraging than ever.

In this approaching Christmas season, I pray that God's Spirit will engender in all of us fresh hope, that we might be enabled to continue working for the establishment of His Kingdom here in New England.

In His service,

Roberto S. Miranda
Chairman, Covenant for New England

Ten Days of Prayer Volunteer/Informational Meeting

Jon Friz reports: Fifteen enthusiastic people met on Thursday, December 6 in Deerfield MA to get acquainted, have lunch and discuss plans for the Ten Days of Prayer 2008. The meeting began and ended with wonderful times of prayer.

Like last year, the Ten Days of Prayer 2008 will be held at Northfield, founded by D. L. Moody.

It’s a well known fact that extraordinary prayer precedes outpourings of God's Spirit. God is currently building a house of prayer in New England, and His people in turn are cooperating with the Holy Spirit to prepare the way for the revival that He has promised.

Current needs:

Spread the word by talking to your pastor, congregation and friends about the Ten Days of Prayer.

Join the Pioneer Valley group to spread the word in that region. Or form a group in your own region. Contact Jonathan Friz so for more information.

Be a “tribe” leader. Commit to “stay and pray” for the ten days beginning on May 1, and to bring nine other people with you. Cost: $4000 for ten people includes room and board for 10 days for 10 people. We are eligible for a 25% discount if the full amount is paid before January 31, bringing the cost to $3000.

Help with administration

Next meeting: Scheduled for Thursday Jan 31. Time and location TBD.

Contact Jonathan Friz with questions or for more information. Phone: 314-306-8037.

Massachusetts Prayer Network Gathering

From Linda Clark: The Massachusetts Prayer Network was deeply honored to have Bishop G. A. Thompson, Founder of Jubilee Christian Church International, teach us and lead us in prayer on Saturday, December 8. The group met at Jubilee and joined with the Morning Prayer Warriors from 7 – 8 am. About 200 people stayed for a time of intercession, followed by an informal yet powerful teaching by the Bishop. The Bishop closed the meeting by laying hands on all prayers warriors and those leading a prayer ministry.

For more information on the Massachusetts Prayer network, contact Linda Clark. Phone: 617-848-0922.
